This place is craziness! So not normal! First of all, last Thursday night I had to sub a course an only one guy showed up, who was very cool. So we went to a bar, and his friend met us there. This is at 6 pm. Let’s just say that somehow I weaved home through the streets at 6 am and woke up Wendi so I could tell her about my random “standing at a tram” hook-up with the student’s friend. Anyway, the following day was a waste since I felt like hell.
Anyway, we decided to do a “day trip” on Saturday. Easy in Spain, not so easy in the Czech Republic. Our day went like this: Wendi and Leili and I woke up at 9 am and we all showered and were at the bus station at 10:15 am. I asked in my limited Czech what time the bus to Kutna Hora is. Noon, they reply. We go to breakfast. We get back to the bus station at 11:50. No bus. A bus driver starts yelling at us, for no apparent reason, and I ask what platform we should be at. There is no bus on Saturday, they reply.
Fucking awesome. So we go to the train station. The next train is at 2 pm. So Wendi and I go purchase millions of flights for our travels (ok, more on that later) and we go back to the station to catch our train. The train ride is fine until the conductor tells us that we somehow missed our stop and have to pay extra. But he was cute, and so are we, so we got out of paying and we got off at the next stop.
There wasn’t a bus for two more hours so we had to splurge on a taxi (please remember than I earn $350 a month and am planning to travel for three months!). And when we finally go to Kutna Hora, the two things we wanted to see (a cathedral and a bone church) well, they were CLOSED. What a fucked up day. So we walked around in the snow for about an hour and then went and had a big dinner. Nice…
So Wendi and I have the best trips planned! We found one-way tickets to fly to Istanbul. From there we are going to make our way back through Bulgaria, Romania (Dracula’s Castle…) and then to Budapest, before returning to Prague for “Girl’s Week Out in Eastern Europe) i.e. my mom and her seven friends. Audrey and her crew will surely pay for my meals and a free week sounds quite nice! The following week, Wendi’s parents and sister come to visit. The day they leave, Wendi and I are flying to Zagreb, Croatia and then we will hopefully ferry over to Italy and work our way back to Prague.
